Parent-and-child swim classes in Boulder
Float teaches parent-and-child classes in a warm pool at the recreation center. An adult is in the water with every child, and every family starts with a short placement visit.

Stages
Every stage is for a grown-up and a child together. Ages are a guide; the placement visit decides where to start.
Being held close in the water, face to face with you
Songs and gentle movement through the water
Splashing with hands and kicking with legs
Floating on the back with your hands for support
When your baby is pulling up or walking and your family wants more room to move, the instructor suggests Toddlers.
Blowing bubbles and getting faces wet, one step at a time
Kicking on the front, holding a noodle with you close
Climbing the steps and reaching for the wall
Games and songs that name each step: kick, bubble, reach
When bubbles, kicking and the steps feel familiar and your child follows the instructor's cues, the instructor suggests Preschoolers.
Floating on the front and back with support
Kicking with a kickboard
Walking along the wall and reaching for it
Taking turns and listening for the instructor's signal
There is no stage after this one. When your child is ready for lessons without an adult in the water, we help you think about what to look for.

A session runs eight weeks.
A class
We start on the step with a hello song, then move through the water together: bubbles, kicking and floating on your arm. The last few minutes are for a calm song and a wrap in a towel.
The instructor leads from the step or beside you and shows each family what to try. You choose how much to do.

Where we swim
We rent the recreation center's warm pool for our classes. Arrive a little early to rinse and settle in.
Enter by the east doors and follow the hall to the pool. The east lot is closest, with accessible spaces by the doors.

“I didn't know whether we belonged in Babies or Toddlers. The instructor got in the water with us, watched for a few minutes and explained why she suggested the yellow stage.”
“The schedule shows which classes have room and which have a waitlist, so I'm not guessing. Class starts with the same song every week, and my son knows what comes next.”
“The water is warm, there's a bench by the wall for my bag, and I always know what the next five minutes will be.”
